Flow of Consciousness

Flow of Consciousness explores awareness not as a fixed state, but as a continuous, shifting movement. Like a river that meanders, accelerates, and softens, consciousness is in constant transformation.

This exhibition by multidisciplinary visual artist Yao Mikami renders the invisible ‘flow’ perceptible. Through the interplay of water, ink, pigment, hand, canvas, and Japanese paper, the works materialize processes of bleeding, formation, and dissolution. Indigo, the primary color in these works, moves with the rhythm of Yao’s hand, embodying the fluid energy and unfolding gestures that shape each piece. Just as points gather into lines and particles into form, the works trace how existence unfolds in each moment.

While we often seek stability, this body of work embraces change as the fundamental condition of life. The exhibition positions the viewer within this current, encouraging reflection on selfhood - not as a static entity, but as a fluid presence, interconnected and perpetually becoming.

Rather than observing from a distance, viewers encounter themselves as part of a larger, unfolding cycle.
