X = X by Disbury & Suz

X = X is a dual exhibition by Disbury and Suz, two emerging artists in their third year of study of Byron School of Art.

Disbury presents an installation-based self-portrait that transforms survival into structure. Using industrial steel frameworks, suspended coloured square forms, crushed plastic, and large-scale projection, the exhibition gives physical presence to internal systems built to endure and evolve. Disbury’s practice is deeply psychological, using creation as a means of navigating personal trauma and transformation. His work resists explanation through words, instead offering immersive environments that invite feeling, reflection, and presence. The result is a body of work that holds both vulnerability and strength.

For Suz, this work is about re-thinking and re-pairing what already exists to say something else. Using mostly found objects, the works explore containment, pressure, softness, and restraint. Bodies, feelings, and identities are held rather than revealed or resolved. Nets, grids, seams, and surfaces create structure, while colour and form suggest vulnerability and desire beneath. Openings appear and everything transforms, but nothing escapes. X = X is change through holding, not through replacement.
